Is the end nigh for Floyd?
Bob Arum has been talking about Mayweather's declaration that he will soon retire.
Arum's Top Rank are the joint promoters of Saturday's fight in what will be the penultimate bout of the 38-year-old's six-fight deal with Showtime.
A win for the American at the MGM Grand would register a 48th victory and leave him just one short of equalling Rocky Marciano's hallowed 49-fight unbeaten mark.
"I believe what Floyd is saying in that he is looking towards retirement," Arum said. "He's been at it since he's eight years old and he doesn't enjoy it like he used to.
"Like Marvin Hagler said, millionaires sleep in silk pyjamas and don't like to get up in the morning and do roadwork.
"When he retires, I think Floyd will be a great party guy. He'll have plenty of money and he'll enjoy himself. I just hope that for his sake he settles down and lives a more normal family-type life."

What does Irvine Welsh make of it?
Yeah, I know, odd question to ask. I only do so because the Trainspotting and Filth author has written a blog on the Paddy Power website.
Here's some of what he's got to say on the fight:
"It’s with some guilt that I have to confess to being underwhelmed by this glitzy gala for a sport I love, centrepieced as it is by an event that features certainly one, and, possibly, two of the greatest boxers of all time.
"The problem is that it’s not just easy to forget that this is actually a boxing match, it’s probably essential, as when you recall this fact, the whole enterprise bears far less scrutiny. As a sporting contest it’s at least five years past its sell by date. We even know the result – a Mayweather win on points or by a late stoppage."

What are the bookies saying?
Thinking of having a gamble on the fight?
The latest odds might interest you, then.
Paddy Power have made Floyd the 8/15 favourite, with Pacquiao coming in at 7/4. You'll get 16s on the draw.
The most telling odds are the under/over on the total rounds - it's 2/7 that we get over 10-and-a-half rounds.
This one will likely go the distance, folks.

What next?
We've had the four-month lead-in period, we've had the final press conference, so what next?
The weigh-in of course!
That takes place tomorrow, at 11pm (ish - these things rarely run to schedule) and we'll be covering it live here, so don't you worry about that.
That is, of course, if you've not shelled out $200 to go watch it in person. Read more about the insanities that go on there, here.

Manny Pacquiao's back story is quite something.
If you're not familiar with his rise from the streets of Kibawe in the Philippines to becoming the boxer, singer, actor, politician and national icon he is today, then have a read of this profile that Josh Evans has put together.
And if you still don't want him to win Saturday's fight, then you have a cold heart.

Did you know..?
Weird facts time now.
Manny Pacquiao has got some interesting theories on liquids. The welterweight champion only drinks water that's hot or at room temperature because he thinks cold water is bad for the body.

Train in vain...
Another fascinating subplot to Saturday's fight is the relationship between the two trainers.
That is, if you could call it a relationship.
To say Floyd Mayweather Senior and Freddie Roach don't see eye-to-eye is somewhat of an understatement.
David Anderson has profiled the pair here.

Mayweather in profile
Here's an excellent long-form piece on how Floyd Mayweather overcame a turbulent home life to become the world's highest-paid athlete and unbeaten fighter. It begins like this:
In the world of professional wrestling, as in boxing, the roles of the fighters are clearly defined.
Typically, one of the fighters is characterised as the 'face', who plays the part of the crowd favourite, while his opponent is cast as the 'heel', who strives to attract the ire of fight fans and interest among casual observers.
Applying this time-honoured template to the long-overdue bout between the two biggest names in boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, there is no doubt as to which fighter has been cast in which role.

About last night...
Unless you're a fan of HBO commercials and communions, last night's final pre-fight press conference between our two protagonists wasn't exactly a classic of the genre.
Manny Pacquiao spoke first (well, after the umpteen corporate bods who were lining themselves up to slap each other on the back) and he didn't do much else other than thank the Lord for getting him where he is today.
A nervous looking Mayweather followed and he said even less, as you can see in this recap here.
Even the stare down wasn't that exciting:

The Manny camp
And these legends of the sport believe the Phillipines’ finest will emerge victorious:
Miguel Cotto: " I'm rooting for Manny Pacquiao. I think the quickness of Manny is going to have a big impact on Floyd's performance."
Mike Tyson: " Floyd doesn't throw anywhere near 100 punches a round. He is more of a scientific fighter, he really plots a lot, he poses whereas Pacquiao is feinting and moving around. That's just my opinion, Pacquiao has perpetual motion he's all over the God damn place."
George Foreman: "I think Pacquiao. He's smart, he's the underdog, and there's nothing like an underdog in a boxing match [and] trying to find a way to win. You get the crowd cheering for you, you feel their strength and they can pull you through. I got a feeling he can win it by one round, on points."
Oscar De La Hoya: "If he can start well in the first two rounds, then the fight can go in his direction."
Sugar Ray Leonard: "All fighters have one last fight in them, if you look at [Muhammad] Ali against George Foreman and Ali won despite being expected to lose. With me it was Hagler, I knew I had one last fight in me. I believe that all applies to Manny Pacquiao."

In the Floyd corner…
Everyone in the boxing world has an opinion on who will emerge victorious on Saturday evening.
Here’s some pugilists of past and present that believe Money Mayweather will make it 48-0:
Nigel Benn: "This fight is going to make Mayweather who he is. I believe that he has not got the recognition."
Kell Brook: "I'm leaning towards Floyd Mayweather. He's never lost before, he knows how to win and it's in Vegas. I think Mayweather is going to control the pace and I think he's too clever for Manny Pacquiao."
Ricky Hatton: "I have always thought Mayweather and although I think Manny has the style to beat him, I'm still going to go with Mayweather."
Amir Khan: Mayweather will be smart and keep moving, and I think he will get a good unanimous win. The fight will be a competition for four or five rounds and then Floyd will take the lead and start pulling away, creating the distance and finishing off with a win."
Shane Mosley: "I think Mayweather's going to out-point Pacquiao by moving, evading punches, and being able to do combinations and stuff like that."

Floyd's in lurve...
Boxing supremo Floyd Mayweather has got one big reason to be smiling ahead of Saturday's big fight - he has got a new girlfriend.
The flash fighter has been dating Doralie Medina for the last few months after they met when he employed her to be his masseuse two years ago.
And by the looks of it, being Mayweather's WAG most definitely comes with its perks. He is known as "Money" after all, and is known for his ludicrous fleet of cars.
Not only has stunning Doralie, 30, moved into his salubrious £20 million mansion in Las Vegas, but she has been lavished with gifts from her new man, and she's not shy to tell the world. Well, her Instagram followers.

Pacquiao has rediscovered his killer instinct, says Roach
Manny Pacquiao claims he has rediscovered his 'killer instinct' in time to fight Floyd Mayweather on Saturday night, reports Dave Kidd from Las Vegas.
Pacquiao's coach Freddie Roach had admitted his concern that his fighter had stopped wanting to hurt opponents and the Filipino has not inflicted a stoppage since defeating Miguel Cotto in 2009.
But Pacquiao, 36, claims he has rediscovered the appetite for a KO which earned him his fame a decade ago, in time for the world welterweight unification bout dubbed 'fight of the century'.
He said: “I am so happy because that feeling of the killer instinct – that focus I had from 10 or 11 years ago - it is back.
“In previous fights, a couple of fights, I never felt like this, it's different. I am 100 per cent relaxed and confident of winning.
“I don't have a prediction. I am excited and confident. I have peace of mind.”

What time does Mayweather vs Pacquiao start on Saturday?
he pair meet in Las Vegas for the scrap which has been billed as the 'richest fight in history', which is expected to earn the two fighters a combined $300million.
Tickets were sold out within a minute of going on public sale, with some companies then offering tickets for as much as £94,000 just moments after they had all been released.

50 Cent to be quids in!
Rapper 50 Cent has already promised to bet $1.6million (£1,036,860) on Floyd Mayweather to beat Manny Pacquiao in Sunday's fight, but he's set to make even more money that weekend.
The 38-year-old will reportedly pocket $500,000 (£323,990) for performing at Drai's club in Las Vegas on the Friday before the fight.
It seems 50, real name Curtis James Jackson III, may be hedging his bets considering his lavish backing of Mayweather, who is currently 8/15 favourite.
If Jackson's recent quotes are anything to go by though, the rapper and boxing promoter is certain he'll see a return on his money.
He said: He said: "Champ (is) gonna smoke him. It's gonna look like it was pumped up for no reason."

Roach: I fear Floyd won't turn up
Freddie Roach reckons Floyd Mayweather might not turn up for Saturday’s super-fight with Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
The duo will finally face off at the MGM Grand this weekend after years of negotiations and are set to share a combined $300million from the bout.
Undefeated Mayweather will enter the ring as firm favourite to claim the win against Pacquiao who has tasted defeat five times during his own glittering career.
But Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, fears the showdown may not even take place as Mayweather could be a last-minute no-show at the Nevada venue.
He said: "I really am wondering if he's going to turn up on the night.

"I don't think any fighter is afraid, but I don't think he wanted this fight. He was forced into a fight he didn't want to take.

With broadcasters demanding hefty fees to watch Floyd Mayweather take on Manny Pacquiao next Saturday, many boxing fans could turn towards social media to illegally watch the richest fight in history for free.

The recent explosion of live video streaming apps such as Periscope and Meerkat have raised the realistic prospect that Sky and US broadcasters Showtime and HBO could miss out on millions as viewers stream the content between their devices without paying.

Launched by Twitter, Periscope allows users to broadcast a live stream to their social media followers. The video is then available to replay for up to 24 hours and can also be saved to the user's phone.

The Periscope game-changing moment is going to come during Mayweather/Pacquiao when the fight will be free on Twitter. #Majordisruption>>

This opens up the possibility of live sports being streamed across social networks for free, despite broadcasters paying millions of pounds to obtain the rights.

In the US, viewers are being charged between $89.99 (£59) - $99.99 (£66) to watch the fight while in Britain Sky is offering the bout for £19.99.

In America, the NFL recently reminded journalists that 'any unauthorised use of any transmission, picture or other depiction or description of game action, game information, player interview or other arena activity is prohibited... without prior written approval.'

And away from sport, HBO, which will broadcast Mayweather vs Pacquiao in America alongside Showtime, issued take down notices last week after the season five premiere of hit show Game of Thrones was streamed.

'We are aware of Periscope and have sent takedown notices,' an HBO spokeswoman said in a statement.

'In general, we feel developers should have tools which proactively prevent mass copyright infringement from occurring on their apps and not be solely reliant upon notifications.'

Periscope 'lets you share and experience live video from your mobile phone' and is 'a perfect complement to Twitter, which is why we acquired the company in January,' Twitter's Kevin Weil said in a blog post.

'It may sound crazy, but we wanted to build the closest thing to teleportation,' claim the Periscope team.

'While there are many ways to discover events and places, we realized there is no better way to experience a place right now than through live video.'

However, its terms of service claims it does not support copyright infringement, but currently relies on reports from users alerting the company to the infringement.

'We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect Periscope users to do the same,' the TOS read.

'We will respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable law and are properly provided to us.'

The company has a team dedicated to content review, has the right to remove any illegal content and shut down a person's account if they are found to be violating the TOS.

One possible precedent is the use of another app, Vine, which allows users to upload -second clips.

The Premier League was last year forced to remind people not to post copyrighted material after fans started recording goals and sharing them with their friends over social media - with many unaware that what they were doing was illegal.

The most popular Vine football accounts have hundreds of thousands of followers, despite Twitter stating: 'Vine users may not post content that violates the rights of a third party.'

In an interview with the BBC, director communications Dan Johnson said: 'You can understand that fans see something, they can capture it, they can share it, but ultimately it is against the law.'

'It's a breach of copyright and we would discourage fans from doing it, we're developing technologies like gif crawlers, Vine crawlers, working with Twitter to look to curtail this kind of activity.'

He added: 'I know it sound as if we're killjoys but we have to protect our intellectual property.'

Meanwhile, Meerkat, which allows users to turn their mobile phones into a portable webcam that lets them live stream whatever their handset is pointing towards, has had its access to some Twitter services cut.

Twitter was not impressed when the app imported all of the user's followers and details of who they were following and have limited Meerkat's access, although the company has since has found a way around this by adding a search feature that lets users find their favourite Twitter users.

Founder founder Ben Rubin claims that while other live video services had been available before, they did not take off because of a lack of network capacity and enough people using smartphones for video.

'This truly feels like a beginning of a new era,' Elman said.

Premier League goals and highlights are already being made illegally available as Vine posts

Nonetheless, Periscope and Meerkat may not immediately threaten to steal sports broadcasters profits, but they serve as a form of 'grass roots competition,' said John Vrooman, a Vanderbilt University sports economist, told CNBC.

'Streaming apps that allow simultaneous media consumption and production are not in themselves a clear and present danger to sports leagues,' he added.

The biggest problem is that watching streamed video from a mobile phone can be a frustrating experience with quality far removed from modern high-definition TV screens -not to mention pop up ads, potential viruses, picture freezes and buffering.

No-one at Twitter, which owns Periscope, or Sky was available for comment.

THE PERILS OF LIVE-STREAMING: PERISCOPE USE AND COPYRIGHT LAW

Broadcasters Showtime and HBO in the US and Sky in the UK have bought the rights to the fight, meaning that anyone who streams it in the respective countries will be breaching their copyright.

Individual users may have a legal defence if they show small parts of the fight with credit on their Periscope stream, but showing it in its entirety would be illegal.

The copyright holders would be entitled to bring legal action against those in breach. However, due to ephemeral nature of Periscope - if users choose not to save their broadcast - and the difficulties in tracking down individuals, the likelihood is that broadcasters would choose to bring a lawsuit against Periscope for facilitating the breach of copyright.

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, the Premier League warned social media users that it was illegal to share clips from games, and claimed it was developing technology to sift through millions of Vines and gifs to target those in breach.

Last week HBO in the US issued takedown notices to Twitter, which owns Periscope, over the illegal streaming of the season premiere of Game of Thrones.

In its terms of service, Periscope encourages anyone with a copyright complaint to come to them, with evidence of the breach.

It also states: 'We reserve the right to remove content alleged to be infringing without prior notice and at our sole discretion. In appropriate circumstances, Periscope will also terminate a user's account if the user is determined to be a repeat infringer.'

I will certainly be watching it for free, why glaze the promoters and fighters who already are millionaires with more money when they don't need it. As a previous poster said it was going to charity then fair enough, but people will watch for free and I don't see why it is illegal to do so if the person streaming it isn't charging.

RobTheGob, Wolvestan, United Kingdom, about 2 hours ago

I could understand if the money was going to charity but with the already very fighters getting it all.....who cares if people watch for free. Sky are the worst. They charge £20 for the fight and then have the cheek to show adverts between rounds. Rip Off. If I can wath it for free I will.

Update Reports for Pacquiao vs Mayweather tickets on sale after CBS exec rescues May 2 boxing PPV

Floyd Mayweather will indeed fight Manny Pacquiao in what is expected to become the highest-grossing boxing pay-per-view (PPV) of all time, despite some hiccups that kept contracts from being signed for the May 2 showdown, which takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"We resolved all of the issues and now we're waiting for the paperwork," Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told Yahoo! Sports. "I said on the call that if what we agreed upon is in the paperwork we receive, we will sign it and the tickets will be released."
The biggest obstacle was the allocation of tickets, which need to be split among the promoters and of course, the venue. While the Mayweather side had no issues with the agreement in place, Arum -- who represents Team Pacquiao -- claimed otherwise.
Water under the bridge, as contracts should be signed within the hour. That's thanks to President and CEO of CBS Corporation Leslie Moonves, who was instrumental in making this shared fight between HBO and Showtime come together in the first place.
Tickets will be made available to the public at a cost of $1,500, $2,500, $3,500, $5,000 and $7,500, according to the report, and could go on sale as early as today (Weds., April 22, 2015). More details will undoubtedly be revealed during today's "Mayweather vs. Pacquiao" conference call.
Stay tuned.
